Born in Belgium May 4, 1929 she was raised in England where she attended school. Though her first film was Gigi she became famous for her role in Roman Holiday. Audrey Hepburn is a favorite for many reasons including her impish good looks and magnetic screen presence but many are unaware of her contribution to humanity. Vividly aware of her fellow human beings she started inquiries into human aid early in the 50′s. Her family lived some time under German rule in Arnham and she was profoundly touched by the depravity that occurred during that time. She became a volunteer with the organization Unicef shortly after her fame and continued her life long love of volunteer work with this organization until her death in 1993. She is a fantastic example of putting your money where your mouth is. Over the expanse of 40 years she would become a Unicef Goodwill Ambassador and earn the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her compassionate service all over the world including Africa, Bosnia, and various South American countries.
